The Lorax and Consumerism

Publisher@editor.com

Dear Editor:

A couple of days ago I watched your episode on the Lorax and came to the conclusion that it symbolized consumerism. As a consumerism fanatic, I had to send you my input on the matter.

I personally love consumerism and the inner working of it and think that it should continue to run our economy despite its effects. Everyday, millions of people around the world buy new products and in doing so they make the economy better. They help make products more efficient and easy to make which will help the world in the distant future.

Our economy is driven by the urge to go out and by something new and amazing. By showing only the negative effects of consumerism, you are teaching children the wrong ideas on the world works. Many of the effects of consumerism only last for the short term and is not worth worrying about. Without consumerism computers, phones, and other day to day technologies would not be accessible to the average medium and low wealth family. There are other ways of show casing consumerism without showing a bias opinion.

I strongly suggest that another episode should be made to show how consumerism has helped everyone. It would give children the power to choose whether they are with or against the idea of consumerism. With your help we can give people better understanding on the matter instead of just showing cons.

Sincerely,

Amritpal Saini

Motif – Emmanuel Jal Documentary

1325792-grimreaper

The documentary of Emmanuel Jal greatly represents death from war. Emmanuel explains how he has killed and how his friends died beside him. Emmanuel as a child has to fight a war and he killed many and it would be the job of “death” to take them away. He would have been very close to him. Like his enemies, his friends passed away as well. Him and his friends fought for reasons unknown to them. He fought so the dying would end and all could be good again. Now he is helping kids in Sudan, and other places in Africa, get a brighter future.

Enzo’s engine

“Aerodynamics are for people who can’t build engines.” – Enzo Ferrari

Why do people choose the easy way? Enzo worked hard to make the best engines of his time because he knew that the stronger engine would win even if it was more difficult. This quote motivates me to try my best at everything I do and not to let other peoples ideas distract me from objective. It was not just difficult but time consuming to work day and night to make an engine that could outperform any aerodynamic car. I try to choose the more difficult way when it comes to important decisions because it is usually better in the long term. Working the extra hour on what really is important to me is going to help me exceed my limited for my best. Hard work in the end will pay off because at a certain point the easy way will not take you further. But at the same time this will only work if you are working for something you love.
